A Crafting Altar is a multiblock structure that allows the player to create spells. More powerful spells can be created by using high quality blocks. The altar may explode if you try to use it to create a spell with more components then can be allowed by the power given to it by the Cap Blocks and Main Blocks.
The crafting altar is a 5x5x5 structure, and the area around it must be free of obstacles (e.g. no blocks can touch the sides or roof of the altar). This rule does not apply to the base of the crafting altar however, so it will still work when integrated into the ground.

Main Blocks Edit
The type of main blocks decides, how powerful your altar will be. The stairs must be made of the same material. The blocks are used to build the floor, the walls and the roof of the altar.
Important: The crafting altar won't work if more than one kind of main blocks is used.
|Main blocks and stairs||Effects|
|Witchwood Planks||+3 (2 in version 1.4.0.008 for MC 1.7.10)|
|Purpur Blocks||+4 (MC 1.10.2 and later)|
Cap Blocks Edit
The type of cap blocks decides how much extra power is added to your altar. The blocks are used to build the center piece of the floor, and to top off the four corners.
Important: The crafting altar won't work if more than one kind of cap blocks is used.

- (bottom layer) A 5x5 layer of main blocks with a cap block in the center.
- Two columns, each made of two main blocks and one magic wall in the center, on opposite sides of the altar. A lectern in one of the four corners.
- Repeat layer 2, use a lever instead of the lectern in another of the 4 corners.
- Repeat layer 2 without the lectern, add four upside down stairs facing the inside of the altar
- (top layer) Cap blocks on the top of the pillars, stairs on the magic walls. Stairs to connect the two pillars, facing outside, and two main blocks to fill the roof, with the crafting altar block in the center.
Note: The Arcane Compendium also has a page detailing how to create the altar for people who prefer to see how to create the altar in game.
Then place the spell recipe on the lectern and throw a blank rune into the center of the altar. The lectern will show you what to throw in next, until spell creation is done. Just drop one item at a time, which will disappear in a sparkling effect. The last item will be a Spell Parchment. If all went well, a sound will be heard, leaving a usable spell behind.
Some spells require neutral, light, or dark etherium. Attach an Obelisk, a Celestial Prism, or a Black Aurem to the crafting altar block in the center of the roof using a crystal wrench. This allows the corresponding etherium to charge the altar. If the distance between altar and power source is more than 10 blocks, the player has to use an essence conduit in between. If enough etherium is available, the player must pull the lever on the crafting altar to use it in the crafting.

If a spell has too many effects for the altar to support, the altar will explode very violently during the spell'
