Sunstone is one of the rarest ores in Ars Magica 2. It is the only ore that is found in both the Overworld and the Nether.
Obtaining[]
Sunstone is only found in lava pools. Because of this, it is one of the most dangerous ores to mine. And, not only is it dangerous, it is incredibly rare: the maximum size of a vein is 4 blocks.
A good way to mine it in the Overworld might be to pour water on the lava, turning it to obsidian. This will keep you or the sunstone from falling into the lava.
In the Nether, it would be safer to use Stone to build around the ore, because ghasts are unable to destroy Stone blocks with their fireballs, meaning the only real threat is being knocked back into the lava. Fire resistance potions and spells are recommended.
Another way to mine sunstone is to make a projectile "create water" spell as create water works in the Nether.
Usage[]
Sunstone is used in the creation of high-level spells. Blocks of it can be used as caps for a Crafting Altar. Its earliest use is probably as a reagent in the ritual of corruption.
